Re-Draft’s Silver Anniversary edition once again showcases the very best teenage writing from Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Last Square Foot demonstrates that our young people are intrigued by the past, in tune with today, and open-eyed about the future.

From laugh-out-loud funny to hair-raising horror… From rug-pull surprise to tender celebration… Re-Draft’s young writers pull out all their imaginative stops to produce an exhilarating collection to read, savour, and read again.

What People Have Said

“Such a privilege to be kept in the loop!

At 25, Re-Draft is of course no longer itself a teenager, but maintains the purpose and principle of supporting youth writing to the highest standard.

This issue represents a very powerful prose year - ambitious, accomplished pieces by a range of writers, willing to tackle hard subjects (Imogen Myer, Brianna Smith) or with the capacity to imagine themselves into other lives. Vigorous imagination in Years 11 and 12 offers promise for the future.

And, for mature poetic aplomb, Eve Hughes, especially 'Salt Flat' which wouldn't look out of place in Landfall or PAYB. Not that any of these works require adult comparisons - they stand on their own merits.

While not its primary aim, Re-Draft must be one of the strengths underpinning what has become a very fertile literary culture in Aotearoa.

Congratulations and cheers all round”

Tony Beyer, Poet & former teacher.
